Albion College invites applications for the Executive Director of the Center for Sustainability and Environment and Director of Whitehouse Nature Center position. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and belonging. 

The Director of the Whitehouse Nature Center (WNC) manages the daily operations of the WNC, its interpretive building and 135 acres (trails, boundaries, and habitats).The WNC Director also assists College faculty, the local school, and community groups in their teaching of subjects that require an outdoor “lab.”  The WNC is part of the Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE).    

The Executive Director of the CSE supports the implementation of CSE’s vision and strategic direction, and works with the Faculty Director of CSE and alumni and corporate partners to sustain and expand CSE and WNC’s programs through appropriate and strategic stewardship in partnership with Institutional Advancement. The Executive Director teaches or leads core workshops as approved by the Dean’s Council. This position also ensures that staff are available for and involved in appropriate SPP and campus initiatives. The Executive Director must exhibit an appreciation of, sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

The School for Public Purpose and Professional Advancement is the administrative home of Albion College’s experiential learning institutes, including the Center for Sustainability and the Environment (CSE) and the Whitehouse Nature Center (WNC). CSE empowers students to be environmental and social change makers. CSE emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach to critical thinking and action, with a focus on environmentalism, social justice, and immediate and extended community engagement.
